Los Altos Hills Roof Deck Balcony with Diamond Openings in a Perforated Stucco Guard-Wall

A photo looking up at diamond shaped openings in a stone-capped stucco wall with green metal-clad windows, shaped Redwood rafter tails, and a copper gutter beyond.

Diamond shaped openings add playful geometry to a thick, stucco guard-wall surrounding a roof terrace in Los Altos Hills, CA.

Located on a sunny acre of land in Los Altos Hills, this ground-up project provided us with an opportunity to explore and extend the language of Spanish Colonial or so-called California Mediterranean style in a large house for a family of six. Heavy stucco walls, decorative ironwork, stone copings, and shaped rafter tails were historical points of reference for our more modern design sensibilities that used the irregular geometries of the site to create a progressive and visually exciting home.
